Society has a funny way of considering its own members liars and thieves before they ever did something. Leaders who strike the people with all forms of law often have this suspicion about memebers of society exactly because they base it on themselves. This is also the reason for which naive and good-hearted people – failing to see a way out of this lawless lawfulness – will resort to vigilantism. From here, there are only a few steps left for somebody to become an outlaw.

The people of 18-19th century Hungary respected outlaws, or escaped prisoners, as heroes, and referred to them in poetry.
