The Shrew
dance performance
What happens when men and women confuse their life roles with each other? The play tries to draw a picture of our modern, off-balance world, where sometimes abnormal becomes normal, a world order created and crystallized by the millenia. It also tells us about the power of this, and the fact that folk traditions should not be protected, but instead, they are the ones who protect us, help us create a community, a relatively normal world around us. It also tells about freedom to fly, but also the need to belong somewhere, ideally to the community we were born in, about the fact that life is indeed a series of compromises, but we still don't have to give up on our noble principles. But mostly, it tells about love. The story is inspired by Kate's character from The Taming of the Shrew by Shakespeare, but it also incorporates some other traditional stories, like that of the devil and the Szekler girl.
