folk dance performance

Ferenc Kiss, the founder of Aquarius Band launched a thematic album in 1999 – as a melancholic closure of the century and a visionary beginning of the new millennium – an exciting summary which proves the utility of the things we have learned from folk culture and the contemporary ideas seen in its means of expression. This musical material, unified in its content but colourful in its genre, evoked the idea of creating a folk dance performance with the same name. On the one hand because of moral identification; the songs are about those values and personalities, which have determined the spirituality of the Carpathian Basin for centuries, but in the same time they also reinforce the depressing fact that in a way mass- and info communication liquidates these values from our daily lives. From this point of view the folk dance performance was created with a pedagogical purpose. The performance targets primarily young people who are living in our region and are on their way of “working off” their cultural identity. Their vision about the future, their careers and their plans of establishment make it impossible for them to come back to the previously mentioned intellectual resources. Among other things the production attempts to replace these motivations and raise attention.
