The King's New Clothes

a tale in dance

King Pomádé's only worry is what to wear. – So, the whole royal household's only worry is what the king should wear. Two tailors – taking advantage of the king's and the household's foolishness –, makes fun of all of them. “The naked truth” will be revealed to the music of  György Ránki.

György Ránki's child opera The King's New Clothes, originally written for the Hungarian Radio, was adapted to the stage by the author himself, after its initial success. The best-known work of György Ránki (1907 - 1992) characterizes the exceptional, unique, funny, ironic and very inspired author. In his music, there are elements of classical music, jazz, pop music and folk songs, combined together in a very entertaining way.

Nagyvárad Ensemble has concieved its new premiere using this material. It reflects actual problems of society, caused by human faults, in a funny way. Against redundant  puffery, a superficial view of life, it is never too early to learn how to see the events around us critically, and how to say the truth – even if it takes courage.

Nagyvárad Ensemble's new performance will be an excellent entertainment for all ages, children and adults alike.
