The Boy

tragedy

A retired couple arrives to a hut in the mountains at a very unconventional time, just before Christmas. The fact that they don’t celebrate in the town together with their family is strange enough. They are the only guests in the building. Their discussion is more a fight than a dialogue; the last fencing bout of a long life lived side by side. The priest of the village appears at first, than the boy and after the boy, the policemen who are looking for him. The story is about the fate of three tragic characters, the destinies of the Old Woman, the Priest and the Boy are entwined. As the poet says:“There is no solution or relief.” This is the way a tragedy has to be. András Forgách is a writer, a dramaturge awarded with Jászai Mari Prize, an author with a huge theatrical experience. Many award winning and successful plays and adaptations are connected to his name. He often directs his own plays, like this time the world premiere of his drama, entitled The boy, at the Szigligeti Theatre.
