Friedrich Dürrenmatt
The Visit
Translated by:: Kurdi Imre
The visit might be the most famous play by Dürenmatt, and it has long been viewed as much more than a mere critique of capitalism. The problems it raises have proven to be eternal: can morals be for sale? Is self-righteousness acceptable? Is there an everyday absolution from our sins? Can servilism and cowardice ever be forgiven? The answer the author gives to these harsh questions is the grotesque itself. One of the big challenges of our show in progress is finding a way to tell the story of our pettiness and hypocrisy with a trenchant, knife-edge humour - in other words, whether we can formulate our ideas with sufficient objectivity, but without making anyone feel exonerated.
The title role of the show will be played by Fábián Enikő, in celebration of the 40-year anniversary of her debut on stage.
