Imre Kálmán's grand operetta was performed successfully in Oradea in the 1947/48 season, directed by Ferenc Hegyesi, with Anna Dukász in the title role. In 1955, László Gróf directed a fresh Békeffy-Kellér version of the production, which was renewed in 1962. In '55, Anna Dukász and Magda Papp played Silvia; in the revival, it was left to Magda Papp to play the soprano.
The world of The Csárdás Princess is the milieu of the turn of the century, the height of the popularity of the Budapest revellers, and also the heyday of the Hungarian theatre and cultural life in Oradea and the Art Nouveau architecture of the town.
The large-scale production features the full Nagyvárad Dance Ensemble as a dance troupe, the choir is made up of the private choir of the Partium Christian University and a 16-piece orchestra performs the music.
