“The most important thing is for people to understand that if they want tom they can make a new and better life for themselves” – Chekhov wrote somewhere. Three Sisters can be regarded as demonstrating just the opposite: a collection of fates of people who have not yet had this revelation. They are sleepers, only thinking of the past, who can not arrive in their own present time, can't take responsibility for themselves and their loved ones, can not grow up.
Chekhov's deep understanding of human nature – although with traits typical of the end of the 19th century – paint a painfully accurate picture of our present, too, but this picture is still not scary, because the gentle hand of the author, the precise attention to detail can be clearly seen in it, it bears the mark of healing love. In the end, when we look deep into the eyes of the characters, we are not able to laugh at them without sympathizing with them, and without loving them from the bottom of our hearts. This way, maybe we will be able to forgive our pettiness, to laugh at ourselves. It seems that Chekhov didn't leave his medical carrier behind after all – he helps us create a better life.
Balogh Attila graduated from the Marosvásárhely University of Arts as a director, in the class of Kovács Levente, Harsányi Zsolt and Parászka Miklós, then obtained a Master's degree as a director and as an actor. Between 2011-2015, he was a director of Harag György Company at the Northern Theatre of Szatmárnémeti, then he became a member of Szigligeti Company in Nagyvárad beginning with the 2015/16 season. Last season, he directed the play The Seventh Step – Hrabal's Tales.
