Mágnás Miska

operetta

Mágnás Miska is one of the most successful pieces of the Hungarian operetta literature, played over and over again in music and drama theatres as well. This popularity is partly due to its satirical and amusing story and partly to the brilliant evergreen songs written by Albert Szirmai and Gábor Andor. To mention only a few well known hits: “Who knows a woman’s heart”, “I wish to be happy” or “What a nasty world”. Perhaps this is the only piece of the genre which has a comical character in the leading role. Miska, the quick-witted stable-boy, “the kid from Vas County” in a couple of moments turns into a distinguished aristocrat in front of our eyes. His husky partner Marcsa becomes a posh lady, who is introduced to the upper-class world as Countess Mary. The reason for all this is that the priggish family would not allow Baracs, a simple farm bailiff to marry their daughter Countess Rolla. Fortunately the kleptomaniac grandmother isn’t concerned about such prejudices and takes sides with the young lovers. This way the operetta can reach uncloudedly a joyful finale.

With the participation of the Oradea State Philharmonic's orchestra and the Oradea Dance Group.
