Füst Milán

Auntie Mali

comedy

Once upon a time, we had a playwright, Füst Milán. One of the great visionaries of the 20th century, leaving behind a formidable life-work, renewed the theatrical language, and gave account of human nature with such clarity that his era wasn't able to make anything of it. Since then, his work has become a compulsory subject for actors and directors alike. And so it happened that this angry prophet decided to write a slapstick comedy – about a CEO, the poor accountant, and the typist lady, with whom everyone falls in love... He wanted to demonstrate that he is capable of writing a play according to the expectations of his age. Auntie Máli has since  become a great and long-running success on Hungarian stages, and still, it defies the author's original concept: it is not your everyday slapstick comedy. Auntie Máli  is just as crazy as life itself. Full of poetry, absurd and passion, its heroes mysterious and loveable: eccentric, sassy and complicated, it evokes a past age and lifestyle, flies from collapse to happiness (and back) – just like the life that we live.
