My Fair Lady

musical

Translated by:: Varró Dániel

The premiere of the musical based on G.B. Shaw’s play was in 1955 on the Broadway. It is undoubtedly true that this musical conquered the greatest audiences. Eliza sells flowers to the elegant audiences in front of the famous opera house in London. Her dreams resemble the dreams of other girls like her: warm room, soft bed, delicious food, and somebody who loves her. But not even these apparently simple wishes seem achievable. Coincidence however has a say in Eliza’s life. The whimsical professor, Higgins, studies dialects. In his opinion the key of social ascension is to speak “properly”. Therefore it is possible to turn a flower girl into a duchess. The professor begins to teach Eliza and she proves to be great subject to his demonstration, she is persistent and talented. How she manages to succeed? What is the outcome of the student-professor relationship? It is told by this musical, with a lot of music, witty dialogues and unforeseen turning points.
