Y
musical play
Following The Seventh Stair and Casting, Balogh Attila and his young creative team are preparing another extraordinary performance. The crew approaches the question of reality and virtuality with its usual dinamism, humour, and unparallelled creativity, with the talented artists of Szigligeti Company as their co-authors.
“When I think of the future, I get anxious. I'm afraid that the robots, much smarter and much stronger than me, will rise against my whole species, leaving us to the fate of the dinosaurs. And then there's the Matrix complex: is everything around me real, or just an artificial dream? When am I, where am I, who am I, can I trust my eyes? It's okay, I'll just take a pill (the blue one, the red one?), and it will pass. But the problem of Y remains. Y is the unknown in the equasion. A virtual possibility, the future. Y is a fork in the road. It wants me to decide, because I can't go both ways at once. Where should I go anyway, when I am as insignificant as a number among millions of others, a replaceable unkown, a Y? Take a decision – but why, Y? All I can do is what I say Y(es) to and who gives me a (Y)[1]. For example, if I were a famous actor, I would get loads of (Y)s. I'd like a DiCaprio avatar, I'd like somebody to like me. I'd like somebody to watch me and to trust thay I'm not just playing the drama of my life to myself. I wish I could get somewhere, to Broadway, to Mars, or at least in another room, it really doesn't matter where, all that matters is that I meet someone real. I'd like to buy a ticket and travel to that Y place where this dragging anonymity would end at last. Y. Welcome aboard!
