Matthias I., king of Hungary, Bohemia, Dalmatia, Croatia, Rama, Serbia, Galicia, Lodomeria, Cumania and Bulgaria, prince of Austria, referred to as Matthias Corvinus in European chronicles, is known simply as King Matthias. However, the wise ruler, powerful warlord, fair judge and womanizing husband had been a child and a teenager as well: curious and mischievous, a little prankster. His pious teacher - at the time, John Vitéz, bishop of Várad -, had enough to worry about when it came to him. The kind-hearted, cheerful little imp who often escaped from the bishop’s palace was known to locals as Matthias the Raven.
