Transylvanians in the Borderless Dance Capital
On 16 May, Nagyvárad Ensemble performed The Shrew on the stage of Várkert Bazár, in Budapest, at the festival Borderless Dance Capital.
Professional dance ensembles from outside Hungary's borders do have the chance from time to time to present their shows in Budapest, but this is the first time that the performances took place as part of a single event, hosted by National Dance Theatre and Heritage House (both from Hungary).
At the mini-festival, besides Nagyvárad Ensemble, Háromszék Ensemble, Maros Art Ensemble, Hungarian State Folk Ensemble, Bekecs Folk Dance Ensemble, Hargita National Szekler Folk Ensemble has also performed.
The performances were followed by discussions. Director-choreographer Csaba László and Levente Dimény, art director of Nagyvárad Ensemble, talked with moderator Ágnes Hercku about The Shrew. They told the audience what the idea of THE WOMAN means to them, what they think the ideal woman is like, and how much does the character of Kate have to do with reality.
