Infinite Dance Festival opens with The Nutcracker
The 4th edition Infinite Dance Festival began with the public dress rehearsal of The Nutcracker, a co-production of Nagyvárad Esemble and GG Dance Eger. Staged to Tchaikovsky's immortal score, the production presents the well known story from a new perspective. The coerography by Tamás Topolánszkí and Csaba Györfi merges elements of classic and contemporary ballett with circus arts, as the figure of Drosselmayer, the magician, performs magic tricks and animal-taming acts on stage.
Coreographer Csaba Gy?rfi said the following about the performance: “We’re working with a very nice story, and the two companies have been able to work very well together. This gave a large boost to the creative process, even when circumstances made things extremely difficult. Naturally, there is still work to be done. I must add, however, that we have reached this level in a very short time, at an unusually fast pace, which I can say is impressive even in its current form".
Tamás Topolánszky said about the co-production: "Tchaikovsky's music is eternal, and the way we dance to his music is extremely rich and multi-faceted. Essentially, it’s going to be a contemporary dance performance combining several genres, as I myself, just like Csaba, have tried several dance genres”.
The rehearsals for this special production took place partly online and partly in person in Eger. During the dress rehearsal, before the first day of Infinite Dance Festival, the audience had their first encounter with the work in progress, which is scheduled to premiere in Oradea in November. Production of the performance is sponsored by the Ministry of Human Resources of Hungary.
A video compilation of the performance was made by the Infinite Dance Festival crew and can be viewed on the link below.
