Bartók and Stravinsky in Dance Theatre

On Friday the 3rd of February, at 7 pm, Szigligeti Theatre will host a performance by one of Hungary's most important gestural theatre companies. Central Europe Dance Theatre from Budapest will bring choreographies for Arachne – Princess of Colophone by Bartók, and The Rite of Spring by Stravinsky to the Oradea stage.

Two choreographers, two pieces of classical music, one contemporary dance performance – An Evening With Bartók and Stravinsky offers its audience a very special dance theatre experience.

Attila Kun re-interprets The Rite of Spring, based on folk music and the beliefs of the Russian plain, into a contemporary medium. Stravinsky composes a deeply buried, and still inextirpable instinct into his music: the instinct to believe in a world order based on laws.

Princess of Colophone tells the story of Arachne, the princess turned into a spider, who, believing she was the greatest weaver in the world, challenged the goddess Athena into a contest. Gábor Halász is not trying to illustrate the story in an obvious way, but he creates a clear and followable dramaturgy from the relationships between characters, offering a continuous theatre experience to Béla Bartók's 4th string quartet.

In the last 27 years, the company has performed in 44 cities of 22 countries, had 108 world premieres featuring 59 artists.

For An Evening With Bartók and Stravinsky, tickets are available at the theatre's bookin office, or online at www.biletmaster.ro.
